Before the advent of television, nothing could surpass the voice of the radio. Radio broadcasts of songs and concerts by numerous singers have a long and rich history in the life of radio and everything it used to broadcast. In our gathering, we will dive together into the sea of stories, listen to the songs, and explore the secrets of radio and its strong and evident influence on the emotions of many of us.
Brief about the session presenters:
Mr. Abdel Rahim Youssef
Egyptian poet and translator born in 1975. He has published eight collections of poetry in Egyptian colloquial Arabic and thirty-four translated books. He has contributed literary translations to several Egyptian and Arab journals and served as an assistant editor at the cultural magazine “Mena,” which published three issues from 2005 to 2009. He translated numerous reports for Human Rights Watch, UNESCO Office in Germany, United Nations Population Fund, and the Madamasr website. He received the State Encouragement Award in Literature for Intellectual Works Translation in 2017 for his translation of Bernard Mandeville’s book “Three Studies on Ethics and Virtue,” published by Dar Safsafa.
Mr. Kareem Gamal
Writer and music researcher, born in Alexandria in 1992. He studied Arabic music academically and obtained a postgraduate diploma in political science from the University of Alexandria (2021). He has written research articles on Arabic literature, musical heritage, and Eastern music for several Arabic websites and newspapers. He authored the book “Omm Kulthum and the Years of Military Effort,” which won the State Encouragement Award in the field of social sciences, history, archaeology, and heritage conservation in 2023. He contributed to the book “A Homeland Named Fairouz,” published by the Arab Thought Foundation in Beirut.
