When you realize that life is not what we see from inside the molds. When these molds are broken, we see other facts.
I believe humans were created and not intended to be all set into the same mold. Society and cultures started forming psychological and behavioral molds to create copies of people who do the same things, say the same things and act and move the same way.
This project is trying to look into these molds, inspect them and try to break them or at least help in the process.
Ambararo
is a contemporary idea that addresses social stereotypes and molds, made by the society, that men and women have been bound to, throughout history.
Our inspiration comes from Ambararo, a Sudanese tribe whose customs and practices stand in contrast with the traditional model taught by the society I was brought up into, especially when it comes to gender roles.
There is no difference between the dresscode of women and men in the Ambaroro tribe and ambaroro women rely on products from nature such as kohl while women’s accessories include tattoos, which are harsh cuts on the face, men also use kohl, they put make up like women, and see nothing wrong with that.
One of the young men of the Ambaroro tribe says: “Yes, we are bucolic tribes, but that doesn’t stop us from putting make-up and body decorations, and we don’t see a shame in wearing this make-up on our bodies or even our clothes to be more attractive to our girls.”
Amabroro is characterized by many customs and traditions, including marriage customs where women choose men to marry after applying their own makeup on a dedicated day like an annual festival.
Hence the idea of the project as the idea of these customs and traditions were stripped away, generalized, and applied spontaneously as men and women are put in solid molds that are sometimes extremely cruel and it is said “It has been the custom to do so”
And all this by putting them in a display row like in Ambaroro.
