Nonviolent communication is an approach developed by the American psychologist Marshall Rosenberg in the 1970s to resolve conflicts, promote peace, and foster understanding.
Tom Bond, under his tutelage for 20 years, established the New York Center for Nonviolent Communication (NYCNVC) and founded the “Compassionate Communication Course” based on Marshall’s methodology and under his supervision.
The program takes us on a journey to understand ourselves and those around us through understanding and analysing the deep human feelings and needs that cause all of our disagreements and conflicts which are often mingled with earlier prejudgement, beliefs and thoughts that generate anger and hinder proper thinking and understanding.
We will learn through the course about
• Feelings
• Needs
• Blame and judgement
• Abstract observation vs personal evaluation
• Empathy towards oneself and others
• Limits
• Requests
• How to deal with anger
All sessions are based on meditation, writing, exercises, participation and interaction and serve as a healing group and a space of trust and safety which develops affinity among the participants allowing them to share and deal with their feelings and get support.
To join the program, the participant must be willing to attend all sessions, as the concepts offered by the program are related to each other, and some of this concepts are in a logical sequence so that at the end of the journey we can reach the desired outcome and be able to communicate compassionately with ourselves and with others around us and to resolve conflicts, which is achieved through the understanding and exercises on the concepts and completing the assignments that help us to apply what we understood and share the challenges that we face.
Note:
The limit of absence is two sessions max.
Participants can also obtain a certificate from NYCNVC the New York Center for Nonviolent Communication by passing the course on condition that:
– Not being absent more than once
– Completing weekly assignments, which include practices and entries to apply what we have learned and share experiences with the group in the following session and get support from the facilitator.
After the end of the course, participants wishing to deepen their knowledge about compassionate Communication can join the annual course offered by the New York Center for Nonviolent Communication, which qualifies them to be facilitators and then trainers in the field.
