Hind directed and produced her first feature-length documentary, The Tedious Tour of M in 2023, in which she follows the footsteps of the famous writer Mohamed Hafez Ragab. The film premiered in the international competition at the Aswan Women’s Festival and then later at Gabes Cinema Art in Tunisia. Hind is currently researching and preparing for her documentary (Nas al-Kabain/ Fi Zil El Kasr), which participated in the ateliers of the Tetouan Festival in Morocco and won a prize for development in Turin Filmlab.
Film synopsis
Hind is approaching the writer Mohamed Hafez Ragab, the peanuts and pumpkin seeds seller on the sidewalk at Raml station in Alexandria, who has become one of the most important short-story writers in the sixties. Hafez Ragab lived in self-imposed isolation for more than thirty years, inside his modest apartment in the Wardian area. Hind is a director and writer whose imagination is attached to Ragab’s stories. She is preoccupied with the idea of Hafez Ragab abstaining from people and writing at the height of his success. The events of the film take place inside his apartment during the time of endless solitude, in which Ragab rotates between eating, sleeping, silence, and prayer.
