Join the Jesuit Book Club’s WhatsApp Group for the latest updates and discussions!

Join us for an evening of the Jesuit Book Club as we come together once again to share our love for reading and engage in thoughtful discussions. This time, we will be exploring a collection of short stories.

“Cheapest Nights” is Youssef Idris’s debut work that brought him into the limelight. As one of the pioneers of short stories in Egypt, Idris, a young doctor from the Egyptian countryside, presents 21 captivating short stories that shed light on the struggles and hardships faced by marginalized individuals in both the city and the countryside. This collection has garnered praise from readers and critics alike, even catching the attention of renowned figures such as Taha Hussein. It propelled Youssef Idris to stardom in the literary world.

We are honored to have Hend Gafar, an Egyptian writer, as our guest for the evening’s introduction. Gafar published a short story collection titled “عدودة” in 2015, which received the Sawiris Cultural Award in 2017. One of her stories was translated into English and featured in the book “كتاب القاهرة” (the Book of Cairo). She also participated in the Goethe Institute’s creativity workshop, where her short story took first place and was translated into English and German. Recently, Gafar published another collection titled “أيام سمير حمص” (The Days of Samir Homus), which was published by the El Sherooq Publishing Center.

Attendance for the event is free, but we kindly ask you to sign up to secure your spot. If you have already filled out the form, there is no need to sign up again. To stay updated with the Jesuit Book Club’s activities and discussions, please join our WhatsApp group using the following link:
