About Event:

Theater Is A Must 2024 9th edition “Repossess” 08.11.2024 – 16.11.2024
The theme “Repossess” examines the microcosmic resonances of decolonization and the nuances of
human experiences. The showcased performances explore how each perspective is fundamentally
unique according to their geo-political context. “Repossess” is a theme that delves into the personal
and multifaceted stories of decolonization, moving beyond grand narratives and acknowledging the
richness of individual experiences shaped by diverse contexts. We highlight the smaller-scale, individual
experiences and impacts of decolonization. It involves examining how individuals and communities
grappled with identity, power dynamics, cultural shifts, and the legacies of colonialism in their everyday
lives.
“PERSPECTIVES” is an artistic exploration of individual and collective experiences of racism in the form of microaggressions and brings the inner dialogues of people of colour living in Switzerland and Europe to the stage. These different perspectives are expressed relentlessly and powerfully through an interdisciplinary approach of Hip Hop and contemporary dance, spoken word, original sounds and beats, creating space for confrontation, debate and vulnerability.
About the piece: Racism is a complex construct and all those affected experience it differently. PERSPECTIVES brings these different experiences, thoughts and perspectives to the stage and visualizes them through movement. The beginning sets the tone for the performance. The audience has no choice but to become part of the piece, to reflect and empathize with it. It becomes an immersive experience, thereby creating a temporary intimacy between the audience and the performers. The choreographer Anna Chiedza Spörri shows the dancers not only in their pain, but also in their solidarity. PERSPECTIVES is clear in its message of what microaggressions trigger in those affected and does not shy away from illustrating strong negative emotions on stage. But the performance also shows the community that BIPoC can find with each other.
