In this segment, we dive into the world of visual effects (VFX) and graphics, a parallel industry that encompasses all aspects of filmmaking but through the lens of computers. Together, we explore how visual effects play a pivotal role in various stages of production—from pre-production to the final product—creating a profound psychological impact on audiences, enriching the viewing experience, and enhancing the artistic quality of the work.

Film Screening: Life of Pi

The film tells the story of a young Indian man named “Pi Patel,” who survives a disaster at sea after his ship sinks, finding himself in an epic and unconventional adventure. Stranded on a lifeboat in the Pacific Ocean for 227 days, Pi shares this unexpected journey with a fierce Bengal tiger named “Richard Parker.”

Directed by Ang Lee and released in 2012, the film is adapted from Yann Martel’s 2001 novel. It explores the unique relationship that forms between Pi and the tiger, set against a backdrop of adventures and challenges that embody courage and faith.

The film was nominated for 134 awards, including 11 Oscars, and won 4 of them. Among its most notable awards are Best Director for Ang Lee, Best Cinematography, Best Visual Effects, and Best Original Score. It also received accolades from other festivals, such as the Visual Effects Society Award and the BAFTA Award for Best Visual Effects.
