I Thought I Would Make a Poetic Film with My Brother
Ahmed, a filmmaker, uses the process of making a film about his family’s home in his northern Egyptian village—soon to be demolished—to rediscover and reshape his relationship with his younger brother. Through their shared memories of the house and the village where they were born, a deep wound that once tore their family apart resurfaces. The older brother attempts to mend this wound and help his younger brother come to terms with their past.

About the Director:
Ahmed El-Kayal is a filmmaker, producer, and writer. After working as an accountant for 12 years, he decided to pursue his passion for filmmaking by studying cinema at the Jesuit Cinema School in Cairo. His first documentary, Until the End of My Life, was selected for 11 film festivals and received a Special Mention at the Student World Impact Film Festival. His medium-length documentary, I Thought I Would Make a Poetic Film with My Brother, had its premiere at the Ismailia International Film Festival in 2024.

Beyond filmmaking, Ahmed served as an events coordinator during the 46th Cairo International Film Festival in 2024 (Cairo Industry Days). He also worked as a producer at Felucca Films and participated in the social impact campaign for the award-winning film I Looked Up to the Sky, which received recognition at the Cannes Film Festival.
