About Event:

When Pictures Speak: Alexandria’s Gathering for Comic Artists and Enthusiasts

For the third consecutive year, the Alexandria International Comics Festival “Comixandria” opens its doors, inviting comic lovers from across Egypt and beyond to a unique cultural event. Organized by the Goethe-Institut Alexandria in collaboration with local comic initiatives “Alexandria Workshop” and “Eilugen Comics”, Comixandria has become an integral and influential part of Egypt’s cultural scene.

A Festival of Creativity, Exchange, and Diversity

Comixandria serves as a platform for connection, creativity, cultural dialogue, and supporting the comic scene in the region. It brings together storytellers through images—from emerging talents to professional artists.

This year, the festival highlights two prominent figures in the world of comics:

  • Patrice Mbala (Cameroon): A young comic artist and member of the Cameroonian comics collective “A3”, which organizes the MBOA BD International Comics Festival. Mbala represented Cameroon at the AfriComics workshop organized by the Goethe-Institut in Ghana (2022).

  • Mohamed Alaa El-Din “Migo” (Egypt): One of Egypt’s most renowned comic artists. A film director by training, Migo has worked with publications like Tok TokLab619, and BBC Arabic (where he directed the animated short “The Shame”). Winner of CairoComix’s Best Short Story Award (2016) and the Mahmoud Kahil Award (2021), his recent works include graphic novels like “Kingdom of Death” (with Karim Fahmy) and adaptations of Naguib Mahfouz’s “The Thief and the Dogs” and “Miramar.”

A Diverse Program for All Ages

The festival offers an interactive lineup for comic lovers of all ages, featuring:
🎨 Exhibitions showcasing local and international artists
✍️ Live drawing sessions where audiences can watch artists at work
💬 Panels and discussions on topics like comics as tools for social expression, independent publishing, and comics in education
📚 Book sales and signings to discover new works and meet artists
🎭 Workshops for children, teens, and adults eager to try their hand at drawing

A Space for Connection

Comixandria is more than a festival—it’s a meeting point for idea exchange, networking, and collaboration across cultures and generations, united by a love for comics.

Open Invitation to Comic Enthusiasts

Whether you’re a longtime fan, an aspiring artist, or simply curious, you’re welcome to join this inspiring, fun-filled celebration of comics. Admission is free, and the program is packed with creativity!
